orkestai is a non profit ecological farm exploring the relationships between ability, ecology, agriculture and art in oyster bay, new york. orkestai runs an educational farm apprenticeship for adults, including those with autism and other developmental disabilities.
kara smith is an artist and educator living and working in the berkshires. with a masters in art education she currently works for community access to the arts and manages cata direct, a crafts cooperative.

fragile x syndrome (fxs) is a genetic condition that causes intellectual disability, behavioral and learning challenges, and sensory processing disorders. 1 in 150 women are carriers of fxs and have a 50% chance of passing the condition to their children. the full mutation of fragile x occurs in about 1 in 4,000 males and 1 in 6-8,000 females.
the national fragile x foundation is a non profit organization giving families living with fragile x a place to turn for informational, referrals, and emotional support. they conduct research including the translation of science into new and improved treatments; and legislative advocacy.
sam is a 3rd grader living with his family and 2 dogs in brooklyn. sam's older brother charlie has fragile x.
sam created the catapult which is featured on the bag, and is also the inspiration for the catapult collection. the catapult demonstrates newton's law: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
