beacon's shopping budget challenge with trevor green

model, stylist, and curator, trevor green keeps it adaptably debonair with our shopping budget challenge

 describe your style...

my style is very clean, mature, versatile, and debonair. what I wear just depends on my mood that day most of the time. i’ll be wearing an outfit with either a pop of color or at least one piece that stands out, whether that be a cool pattern, fabric, or combination of everything. i try to style in a way that almost anyone (all generations) can appreciate. so my niece and nephew have someone to show them it’s cool to dress presentable, people my age can respect it, and i give hope to the older generation that not every black man dresses like a hoodlum lol.

 what inspires your style?

i’m very detail-oriented, and live in ny, so i understand that when i leave the house, i never know exactly how my day is going to go. there’s so much to do in ny, especially in the summertime, so i dress comfortably versatile because i want to be able to go anywhere and be fully confident that no matter where i end up that day, i don’t feel out of place in my fit. with that being said, ny is also a place where you can leave your house at 1pm and the next time you put your key in the door is 3am. So i’m always dressed for both day and night, so that could be shorts with a button-up shirt and cardigan, or chino pants with a t-shirt and sweater. in a nutshell, my style is inspired by me overthinking everything!

what was the inspiration behind this look?

honestly, i wanted it to be as organic as possible. so i just looked for the best looking pieces. after trying them all on, i rang up the items starting from the best looking, and stopped once it got to $100, and challenged myself to put something together (which wasn’t that hard considering what i picked out).

 earliest fashion memory?

i remember in elementary school, i used to sneak my white and orange mid air force ones in my bookbag and change into them when i got to school. those were my favorite sneakers at that time. i had to sneak and wear them at school because my mother didn’t want me to mess them up too fast.

what is a style/trend that is exciting for you right now?

flowy pleated, yet casual, men's pants (almost bell bottom-like). as well as the return of the classic sneaker silhouettes in the og colors and a few new colors! there’s a bunch of sneakers that i couldn’t get when i was younger, that are coming back out now. so for nostalgic purposes, i have to buy them because i owe it to my younger self.

what’s your shopping strategy at beacon’s closet?

it’s a mixture of me trying to look for something specific like color or type of garment; such as a shirt, jacket, etc. if i see a fire item that down the line i would regret not picking up, i buy it! i feel like thrifting without intention, will have you in there searching for treasure that might not even be there that day. i try not to force finding something. i used to always feel like i had to buy something, and ended up having buyer’s remorse almost instantly and wasting my money.
