c-note style with destiny velasquez
texas called and destiny answered. with two looks for under $100 photographer and lifestyle blogger destiny velasquez heads south to the lone star state.
what was the inspiration behind this shoot?
before visiting texas, i was told abilene would be "a little dated.” as a lover of all things from the 30s-80s, “dated” to me is like winning the lottery- and the small texas town sure delivered. what initially fueled the concept was a photograph of their historic paramount theater that i found on pinterest.
how would you describe your style right now?
for the colder seasons i really get into "preppy” looks. lots of collars and dresses - so that’s currently where i’m at style-wise. additionally, there are some retro elements that i hold on to year-round, my favorite being ankle socks and converse paired with a knee-length skirt.
what’s your earliest fashion memory?
the disney stores didn’t have any woody & buzz t-shirts for girls (they only had woody/jessie or woody/bo peep) so my parents bought me a boys shirt. to this day, i’m a firm believer in mens graphic tees - they’re just so comfy! my favorite at the moment is a vintage star wars t-shirt that i “borrowed” (stole) from my boyfriend.
what is your strategy when shopping at beacons?
at first the clothing racks can be extremely intimidating! it helps to look for patterns, colors and statement pieces. for this challenge, i started with the collared shirt & neck tie and then found pieces i wanted to pair with them. i wanted something a little funkier than my normal converse and the sparkly oxfords were an awesome find.
destiny wear an asos collared shirt, $13.95 / english factory skirt, $16.95 / american eagle jacket, $29.95 / weathervane dress, $12.95 / american apparel shoes $24.95
