po'boy pilgrimage
beacon's online director, carly, reunites with her cajun roots down by the bayou, in this edition of road vogue.
destination: new orleans, la
purpose of journey: escape the new york winter and shift pace from the “big apple” to the “big easy."
never travel without: a film camera and tabasco
favorite outfit you packed: a comme des garcons dress with a leather harness
how many pairs of shoes: i brought my ann demeulemeester boots and robert clergerie oxfords
what are you listening to: all new orleans music...ernie k-doe, irma thomas and james booker. oh and the true detective, season 1 soundtrack while driving through the swamps. lol
favorite meal: shrimp po’boys and fried pickles at parkway tavern; beignets and cafe au lait at the morning call in city park. if you go to new orleans don’t bother researching where to get the best po’boy, just go to parkway tavern! it’s the locals favorite and has been around since 1911.
highlight of the trip: seeing one of my favorite cities continuing to rebuild and progress since hurricane katrina. my husband used to live in new orleans and it was our first time to experience the city together and with our daughter.
the whole trip was a highlight in the sense that the many places my husband and his friends took me to were the real deal. not something you’d read in a tourist guide...I had the insider's tour.
