how to buy • sell • trade


we are currently buying for fall

  • we buy, sell, and trade vintage and modern clothing, shoes, and accessories with the public

  • we make our selections according to demand, condition, and inventory levels, and season.


 


sell in store guidelines

  • appointments are not taken. we're a first come, first served operation.
  • we have a limit of 50 items (2 bags) per seller, and sellers are limited to selling once per day. we ask our sellers to bring their items in bags instead of bins, hanging bags, or boxes. 
  • sellers must be 18+ to sell. we require a united states government issued id, or any passport (accompanied by a visa as per DCA regulations) to sell. school id's are not acceptable with the exception of those in the SUNY or CUNY system. seller information is confidential and is never shared with outside parties or used for promotional reasons
  • we pay 30% cash or 50% store credit of the prices we assign your items
  • some of our locations offer cashless payment options like cash app or paypal should you wish to receive your cash electronically
  • you don't have to wait for your items to sell before you receive payment. you receive cash or trade (store credit) on the spot
  • the cash option is only available on the day you retrieve your voucher. store credit cannot be converted to cash at a later date
  • store credit is redeemable at all stores
  • you must return by the end of the day to pick up any unpurchased items. items not collected by the end of the night will be donated to charity that night.
  • items with racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, ableist, or otherwise violent connotations or imagery will not be purchased. in addition, the entire contents of any buy including these items may be rejected at the discretion of our buyers.
  • we are unable to assess or purchase items that have been stored in mothballs
  • please do not take offense if we can't purchase your items. we only make money on the items we can purchase, so if we can buy it, we will!

 


when to sell 

    We buy 7 days a week on a first-come, first-served basis — no appointments 

    • We typically accept and process buys up until one hour before closing. However, during peak times (with wait times of 2–4 hours), our buying queue often fills by the afternoon. Once the queue is full, same-day assessments may not be possible. In these cases, we can only accept items as a drop-off, which means your items will be evaluated the following business day without you present (see more on the drop-off process below).
    • On average, same-day assessments take about one hour, but depending on the queue, wait times may extend up to 4 hours. We strongly recommend arriving earlier in the day to improve your chances of a same-day assessment and to avoid longer wait times or the queue closing for the day.

    Same-Day Pickups

    You must return the same day to collect any items we do not purchase. Items left behind after that day are immediately donated to charity and cannot be retrieved.

    Overnight Drop-Off Exception

    If we’ve stopped active buying for the day and sign you in as a drop-off seller, your items will be evaluated the following business day.

    Please note:

      • You will not be present while we review your items.
      • You will not receive an itemized receipt of what was purchased or the prices assigned.
      • You must return by the end of that next business day to pick up any unpurchased items. Items not collected by then will be donated to charity that night.

    We appreciate your understanding as buying volumes vary daily, and we work hard to accommodate as many sellers as possible.

    • items not selected for resale by our buyers, including the bag that they were brought in, will be donated to charity if not picked up by the customer on the same day that they are dropped off.
    • we regret that we cannot store dropped off items for a longer period of time. this is due to the large volume of clothing that we receive on a daily basis.
    • all items not selected for resale can be donated to charity as a service to our customers, and proceeds will both benefit charity and pay for beacon's related operational expenses.
    • due to shipping fees, donations are not accepted through bag it our sell-by-mail service.
