catapult for charity: sam x national fragile X foundation
this second limited edition pairing from our catapult collection features our president + founder's son, sam, with proceeds going to the national fragile x foundation. sam created the catapult which is featured on the bag, and is also the inspiration for the catapult collection. the catapult demonstrates newton's law: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
fragile x syndrome (fxs) is a genetic condition that causes intellectual disability, behavioral and learning challenges, and sensory processing disorders. 1 in 150 women are carriers of fxs and have a 50% chance of passing the condition to their children. the full mutation of fragile x occurs in about 1 in 4,000 males and 1 in 4-6,000 females.
the national fragile x foundation is a non profit organization giving families living with fragile x a place to turn for informational, referrals, and emotional support. they conduct research including the translation of science into new and improved treatments; and legislative advocacy.
sam is a 3rd grader living with his family and 2 dogs in brooklyn. sam's older brother charlie has fragile x.

please tell us about your catapult.
i made this at the tiny scientist. it's a place where kids do science in brooklyn. i used wood, a plastic cup and tape. the ball is a pom pom.
why did you choose the national fragile x foundation as the charity to partner with on this project?
because my brother has fragile x and i want to help him.
what do you want to be when you grow up?
something that involves dogs.
if you had $100 to spend to help people, how would you spend it?
after fragile x i would donate it to charity to help homeless people.
