some of our own

there are a lot of beautiful blogs out there, and it's amazing that one of the most beautiful is written by a couple of ladies in our very own family. yasmin and jessica of dear/from are buyers at the park slope beacon's closet, and have made an art out of playing dress-up.

photographed by their talented friend ashley macknica, yasmin and jessica modeled the unique and diverse pieces they found on the racks of our williamsburg store.

combining vintage and contemporary pieces, these girls embody what beacon's is all about.

to see more pictures and read about their experience click here and here. they also share some of their favorite finds from beacon's closet!

thank you so much girls!

taylor & demolish

this past month we were approached by the very stylish, very adorable candy, of taylor & demolish for a collaboration project. candy scoured our williamsburg racks for her do-it-yourself project, and we are so impressed with what she came up with!

the pieces turned out great, and are for sale on our site!

candy was inspired by brooklyn's street art and her love of bright colors (even in the cold weather!)

...and here's the best part: we are giving away the floral dress! be the tenth person to re-tweet about the contest and win!

the dress is vintage, size 6, and 100% pure silk.

good luck!

the new new york

last saturday, october 1st, beacon's closet took part in GreenHomeNYC's block party in front of our store in williamsburg.

one core component of the event was to use the streetscape and surroundings as a "classroom," transforming the block into an example of a greener city.

all proceeds made at our pop-up shop were donated to city growers, a one-acre rooftop farm here in new york city.

we learned how to paint a green roof, watched worms wiggle and transform organic matter into dirt, and hung out in the student-designed sustainable furniture lounge.

thanks GreenHomeNYC! we'll see you next year!
